Kyle Tucker Clinches the Goodguys Pro Class Points Championship at the Southeastern Nationals
Mooresville, NC – Kyle and the Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro have had quite a year, whether racing at the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car events or on the Goodguys Autocross across the country. This past weekend Kyle battled through some small issues with the 1970 Camaro to finish in 3rd place in the Pro Class and clinched the overall points championship. Before all that went down the Detroit Speed Open House Friday night drew a record number of cars and people as parking spaces were at a premium the entire night.
The official start time for the Detroit Speed Open House is 5:00 PM but by that time, the parking lot was already filled with hot rods, muscle cars and more of all years and colors. A picture perfect evening provided the backdrop for what would be the largest Detroit Speed Open House in our history. Although it was fantastic to see everyone come out and have a great time, we were especially thrilled to donate over $3,000 dollars to the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Moe’s Chevelle and Charger and Angelo Vespi’s Battle of the Builder’s 1969 Camaro winner were on display before being loaded up and heading out to the SEMA show.
Saturday and Sunday provided more perfect fall weather for a weekend full of autocrossing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Ryan Mathews, driving his personal 1969 Camaro, finished in 2nd place in the Pro Class while Kyle was right behind him in 3rd place. Tyler Powell was able to hold off Ryan and Kyle and won the Pro Class autocross, congratulations Tyler. Not only were Kyle and Ryan driving for a shot at the Pro Class win, they were also busy giving rides in their Camaros all weekend to benefit the Austin Hatcher Children’s Charity.
This was another great event from Goodguys, we were thrilled to see all of the DSE “Equipped” cars including Tim and Deb McGilton, Matt Bellamy, Jeff Cleary, Ray Thompson, Deb Farrington, Kenny Edwards Jr, Bob Bertelsen and more that came out and ran hard on the autocross. Kenny Edwards, Jr was also able to win the Street Machine Class in his DSE “Equipped” Mustang. Congrats Kenny.
Next up for the team is a trip to Las Vegas for the SEMA show and then the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car Invitational November 7th – 8th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
